Keep Your Luxury Vehicle In Top Shape: 3 Self-Maintenance Tips

So you've just pulled that brand new luxury car off of the lot and you always find a reason to take it out for a spin. This all sounds good but if you want to continue to enjoy that luxury, you need to make sure that you keep your car tuned up. Read below for 3 tips on how you can self-maintain your vehicle.

Oil Filters

As you know, oil keeps your engine running smoothly. Without it, your engine wouldn't have any lubrication and it can become severely damaged. On an average car, it is recommended that the oil filter gets changed every 15,000 miles. However, with luxury cars, it is recommended that the oil filter gets replaced every 10,000 miles. This can be done by your mechanic.

Since most luxury vehicles have either a V6 or a V8 engine, it is essential that the filters are replaced on schedule because it can contain contaminants from the air or from erosion from nearby parts.

Tires

Make sure that you check the pressure on your tires every few months to ensure that they are at reasonable levels. If your tire is underinflated, it can cause your tire to wear out prematurely which will cost you more money in the long run. Not only will driving on an under inflated tire cause it to wear out, it will also lower your miles per gallon.

If your tires don't have enough air, it will cause your engine to work harder to move the car which will burn more gas. Ultimately, it will lower your miles per gallon. A luxury vehicle can burn 19MPG highway and 13MPG city due to the fact that they are typically 6-8 cylinder cars. You don't want to lower the MPG any more than it already is.

Protect the Paint

Not only are these cars known for their luxury, they are also known for the beauty of their exterior. You don't want your paint to start looking faded or chipped. If you want to avoid this, it is important that you frequently wash your car and use wax.

Make sure that you use a good quality wax that offers protection from UV rays. If your car sits under the sun for long periods of time then it will damage the paint.

In addition to these self-maintenance tips, it's important that you also go see your regular mechanic (such as one from Malibu Motors Service) for regularly scheduled tune-ups. Not only will you be complying with the conditions of your warranty, they'll be able to find problems that you have not been able to find on your own.
